What Are Reminders?

A Reminder is a note that can be set to be triggered by a cue in the cue list.

Its designed for those users with multiple shows and even multiple versions of the same show, Reminders are an easy way to automate at least some of the paperwork and memorising involved in moving shows.

There are four type of reminders

Todo Reminder – This is the main reminder type. It will show a window next time this cue is trigger. This is primarily for Job List items or reminders to looks at something again from the last run of the show.

Focus Reminder – This is specifically for focuses. It will ask for a fixture number and a focus description.

Bubble Reminder – You need to have growl installed for this to work. But it will simply do a growl notification. So a bubble with the reminder will be displayed on screen.

Speak Reminder – This will trigger a spoken reminder. Great for reminding the operator about visual cues or manual cues like smoke or house lights.

The Reminder Window

This is the new Reminder window. The top part is the list of current reminders in the show. You can add and remove reminders by hitting the Plus and Minus buttons under this window.

The “Show only Selected Phase” box is where you select the current phase. And next to it is the button for editing the different phases.

The bottom half of the window is the detail for for the selected Reminder. In this case its a Focus Reminder. It will be triggered on Cue 12 and remind us to focus Fixture 12 on John Upstage right. To the right you can see a box that – if you need to – you can drag a picture of the focus to show you how the focus should look.

What are Phases?

Phases represent different parts of the rehearsal and transfer process. What Cue will only display reminders associated with the current selected phase. The idea behind this is to allow you to separate out focuses or tasks that usually happen during a dry tech for instance or when you have cast onstage for the first time.

Setting a Reminder

The easier way to set a reminder is in the cue list window. Right Click on the required cue and then click “New Reminder for Selected Cue”. Or You can select “New Reminder for Current Cue”.

What Cue currently supports the Grand MA report.tar.gz report file as well as Generic ASCII Show Files.

ETC Eos ASCII Show File

Plug your USB Key into the EOS

File-> Export- > then press [Select].

Select the USB Drive then press Select.

Name the file and press Enter. This should save the ASCII show file to your USB Drive.

Remove the USB Key from the EOS and insert the USB key from the MA into the Mac.

In What Cue – Click ‘File’ then ‘Import Cue List’.

The file should import and you should be presented with the cue list window.

Grand MA Report Files

On the desk – make sure you are in the correct world. The report.tar.gz is filtered by the current world the desk is in.

Release all the playbacks by press OFF OFF then EVERYTHING OFF.

Insert a USB Key into the console.

Open the COMMAND LINE window

Backspace over FIXTURE in the command line

Type “report” and press ENTER

When the window appears press SAVE and save the file onto the USB key.

Insert the USB key from the MA into the Mac.

In What Cue – Click ‘File’ then ‘Import Cue List’.

Select the required Sequence File and click ok. The sequence will then be imported into What Cue.

Click File – Save As and save the imported Sequence.

ASCII Show File Imports

Most desks have some ability to export an ASCII show file – getting that file out of the desk is the tricky part depending on the console.

Getting that file into What Cue is dead easy – you just click File then Import Cue List and you are done.

When Things go wrong

Send us a bug report – Click ‘File’ then ‘Send FeedBack’. And let me know what you were trying to import. Problems happen, with formatting or differences between desks so get in touch or send us the file and hopefully we can get it sorted out.
